Pear Harvest:  All the rest of the pears were harvested, including Gieser Wildeman, Concorde and Conference.  We also managed to harvest some Conference and Doyenne du Comice pears grown by David Johnston in County Wicklow. This year we are trying a new storage technique for the pears, which should allow us to store the Concorde and Conference until well after Christmas. So, if it works, we will have a much longer season of pears at our Market Stall.

Quince Jelly:  We eventually got around to making quince jelly from our quince crop, and it was so well-received last year that we made quite a bit more this year. I also managed to carry out my intention to make membrillo, or quince paste. So the technique I used to make the membrillo ended up with me filling it into jars like jam, rather than making it in a large block to be sliced.  Both the jelly and the membrillo are quite delicious!

New Field:  So we finally got all soil cultivations in the new field completed, and we got a mix of grass and clover sown. I was anxious to get it sown before it got too late into the autumn, because we need the young grass to grow strong enough to survive the winter. It will be nice to be able to plant the new fruit trees into a nice sward, rather than into a mucky field.
